Tzu Chi Boston's COVID-19 Relief Efforts II: Striving to Flatten the Coronavirus Curve With Love

With the rapid spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic in the United States, Tzu Chi Boston volunteers continue to donate medical supplies and distribute hot meals to those in need. In order to spread the love and support during this time, Tzu Chi volunteers collectively collected 500 surgical masks. With the help of many other generous donors the volunteers were able to collect 1000 more masks. On March 30th, all 1500 medical masks were delivered to Cambridge Health Alliance to help overcome the shortage of medical supplies.  Cambridge Health Alliance replied with sincere gratitude, saying, “Thank you very much. We are opening additional areas for treating COVID patients, so this is very timely!

Facing this deteriorating situation, the Massachusetts government utilized the closed schools and sports fields as temporary emergency shelters for the homeless. On the evening of March 31, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and Massachusetts volunteer groups MA VIAD urgently called for bedding sets for the newly established shelter in Brockton. The Tzu Chi Boston Service Center responded immediately, providing 80 blankets the next day for those in need.

After the previous donations, Tzu Chi volunteers delivered more medical supplies almost non-stop. 

On April 1, 2000 medical masks were delivered to Carney Hospital.

On April 2, 2000 medical masks were delivered to Lawrence Hospital.

Also on April 2, 4000 medical masks were delivered to Boston Medical Center.

On April 2, 1000 medical masks were delivered to Tufts Medical Center Asian Clinic.

Tzu Chi sincerely hopes that the donated materials will alleviate the shortage of medical supplies in community hospitals. No matter how long the epidemic will last, the relay of love and kindness is unremitting. Tzu Chi Boston will step up to stem the coronavirus pandemic with their greatest effort.
