Mission of Charity
“Educating the rich to help the poor; inspiring the poor to realize their riches”

Tzu Chi pays attention not only to the effectiveness of its aid and assistance; it also focuses on bringing out the good in everyone. By helping the poor, the rich get to feel the happiness of giving and find the true meaning of life. Likewise, the poor are motivated to harbor love abundantly and help out those less fortunate than themselves, so that they break away from perceived helplessness and despair. Consequently, more people become willing to help out others while enriching themselves through contribution.

Nursing Home visit

Nursing home visit is a regularly Boston Tzu Chi charity event, happening once every two months. Volunteers and Tzu Chiers will accompany the elderly to enjoy a wonderful Saturday afternoon. There are various kinds of performance and interacting games during the event, such as Tzu Chi New Year Blessing Ceremony, Buddha Bathing Ceremony, sign language performance, breathing and stretching exercises and do on. The most touching moment of the day is to see the happy faces on the elderly.

Client visitations

Through referrals in the community, Tzu Chi volunteers evaluate the needs of the clients and provide needed aid such as financial aid or emotional support through regular home visits.

Correctional Facility Visit and Mail Correspondence

Since an inmate requested correspondence with Tzu Chi for spiritual support, volunteers will take the weekends to visit him, provide Tzu Chi magazine and Jingsi aphorism, along with written correspondence to encourage him.

Financial aid

Every March, to promote education and encourage outstanding high school graduates who are from less privileged backgrounds, Tzu chi provides a financial aid for students based on family income, academic performance and community service involvement. The aid is $1000 for high school students about to enroll in college with a GPA above 3.0.

Winter clothing distribution

Around Thanksgiving, volunteers start a clothing drive in the community. After sorting, they will be distributed in needy communities such as Lowell. This project inspires conservation efforts and teaches us to be more empathetic to the less fortunate.
