Giving Tuesday - Double the love

11/29/2016

www.tzuchi.us/givingtuesday/

Giving Tuesday is an international day of generosity that empowers individuals to make donations to important causes on the Tuesday following the shopping frenzies of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Giving Tuesday is on November 29th. Why not take part in this global initiative by starting a Love Saves campaign with us? Your love and goodwill are a powerful force that can inspire your friends, family, and colleagues to support the cause that’s closest to your heart. Even Tzu Chi arose from the conviction that Love Saves, and a pledge to take action to alleviate suffering.
We began with 30 housewives who saved in Bamboo Banks so they could give to those in need. Now you can create your own Bamboo Bank, and invite others to contribute to the cause of your choice – Disaster Relief, Charity, Healthcare, orStudents. It’s easy, and can be lots of fun. Join our Love Saves movement and experience the joy of giving and making a positive difference in the world. Your donation will double when you give this Giving Tuesday, thanks to the generosity of General Solar Technologies!

The Boston Vegetarian Society is hosting the 21st Annual Boston Veg Food Fest. This festival brings together an amazing array of vegetarian natural food providers, top national speakers and chefs, and educational exhibitors in a fun and welcoming environment.  You don't want to miss out if you are curious or passionate about vegan/vegetarian diets, or simply someone who enjoys exploring good food!

This year, the Tzu Chi Boston Service Center will have our own table at the event to showcase Tzu Chi products and introduce the philosophies behind our missions promoting environmentalism and vegetarianism. We would also like to use this opportunity to strengthen our bonds with the local community and meet those who share similar causes.

We will be featuring the Tzu Chi Multigrain Mix, instant rice and other Jing Si products by preparing a variety of samples.  Jing Si products embody the Tzu Chi culture as they are made at the Jingsi Abode, and are the perfect example of sustainable gastronomy.

We will be manning the Tzu Chi table with 3-4 volunteers at all times over the two-day period.  Please click this link to fill out your availability by Oct 3 if interested in being a volunteer.  After Oct 3, we will assign shift(s) based on your availability.

As this is our first attendance at the Veg Fest as an exhibiting party, we have arranged a volunteer training session at 2pm on Oct 8 to better prepare for a smooth running of the event.  The training is not mandatory, but highly encouraged for volunteers as we will be going over the product we are showcasing (tasting too!), explaining the principles behind the products, and making decisions on the logistics of the event.

This year marks TzuChi50 anniversary, as well as TzuChi NewYork's 25th anniversary. To celebrate the memorable, we will hold a charity concert “Thousands of Helping Hands” in Lincoln center on October 16th. The concert will honor Tzu Chi’s 50-year Bodhisattva and Tzu Chi New York 25th anniversary, and feature enchanting performances by the world-renowned China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe (CDPPAT), and Tzu Chi volunteers. The program includes the CDPPAT’s “My Dream”, a most extraordinary dance presenting the omnipotent benevolence of the One-Thousand-Hands Bodhisattva, and three performances by Tzu Chi volunteers, some using sign language: “Gratitude” aims to inspire eco-friendly living habits and respect for Mother Earth; while “From Vow to Action” and “Fulfill My Dream” showcase the timeless importance of perseverance and compassion. All the performances combine to convey the importance of universal and boundless love, and to motivate us to collaborate and undertake the Bodhisattva path.
Please join us there and invite your friends, family, and coworkers.

8/19 Food for Thought - The power of Mindfulness

8/19/2016

Last time Judy successfully intrigued us with her introduction to the English spiritual retreat at Tzu Chi USA HQ in San Dimas. 2hr was definitely not enough for us to fully appreciate it. Good news is, this week's Food for thought, we gladly invited Ellen to share with us her experience to the camp ” at #TzuChiUSA HQ in San Dimas, CA. Her initial decision to go to the retreat this July was primarily because she wanted to spend time with her son Alex who works with the Dharma as Water team, but when she left, she felt 'suffused with openness, able to see more clearly and vividly, and with a profound sense of gratitude'. What happened during the camp? if you are also curious, join us in this Friday's Food for thought and enjoy the food and discussions with us.

Dinner will be provided at 6:30PM, please bring your own utensils.

We will continue reading the book <Path to Truth> if we have time. Please bring the book if you have one. You may also purchase the book at the office.
